Box jump lessons.

Do you box jump? If you do, you know that there’s a moment before you lift your legs that is a leap of faith. Will my legs tuck tightly enough? Will I get enough air to reach the top?

My kids spend a lot of time jumping and just being in their bodies enjoying what if feels like to jump up, jump down, jump on the chaise end of our couch. I don’t spend a lot of time jumping for so many reasons, so the box jump is not a fully practiced, trained-for movement.

I greet the jump. All 5 ft 4 inches of me and I say to myself: just do it. Just do the dang thing. And my body listens: brief moment of panic, lift, land mindfully and there I am 20 inches higher than I was a moment ago. Each time I’m a little amazed, impressed with myself.

How many times am I really looking at something  - a challenge or turn, pivot or path – and think, I can’t do that? That looks hard? What would it take for me to proverbially tuck and take more leaps of faith, grounding myself – amazing and impressing myself? How many challenges are a few inches higher than you think you can do?

I’m looking for the challenges in front of me that I might otherwise walk away from and that bring me a little thrill. What challenges are you facing that could use a little just tuck and do it energy? How might you amaze and impress yourself?

And when the heck did I stop jumping just for fun?

Need help feeling confident before your next jump? Let’s talk.
